Regional Ecosystem 4: Prague

The City of Prague joined the Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy, committing to a 45% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. They developed the Prague Climate Plan, focusing on sustainable energy, mobility, circular economy, and adaptation measures. ECOEMPOWER supports this plan with two pilot projects: installing PV on municipal buildings and testing PV in schools and social care institutions. Additionally, Prague established the Prague Renewable Energy Community (PREC) to support new energy communities, providing renewable energy systems for city-owned buildings and assisting with house renovations. PREC has garnered significant interest from residents since its launch.

The 3 pilot sites are:

Prague 10 Energy Community
Prague 10 Energy Community is being established in the largest part of the city, home to approximately 110,000 residents living in around 7,000 houses and 55,000 flats. The district plans to expand renewable energy activities, focusing mainly on photovoltaics (PV). Additionally, a Prague Renewable Energy Community (PREC) office will be set up in the district to provide services tailored to emerging energy communities. PREC will dedicate a team to support these communities and help local citizens and groups become prosumers.

Prague 12 Energy Community
Prague 12 Energy Community is a key partner for Prague Renewable Energy Community (PREC). Located in the south of Prague, it covers 2333 hectares with around 54,000 residents. The district focuses on engaging socially disadvantaged groups through renewable energy initiatives. Prague 12 has initiated independent PV installations and aims to develop this project into a Renewable Energy Community (REC) with support from PREC.

Prague 6 Energy Community
Prague 6 Energy Community, situated in the northwestern part of the city, spans 41 km2 and houses 100,000 residents. It boasts green spaces and family-oriented residential areas, making it ideal for PV installations, especially in family housing. With a high interest from small private investors, the One Stop Shop (OSS) services will play a vital role in integrating them into energy communities and facilitating their participation in renewable energy projects while efficiently distributing surplus energy within neighborhoods.
